Loggers, settler stranded in Gunung Rabung

GUA MUSANG: A logger and his seven workers, as well as a settler, were stranded in different locations in the forest of Gunung Rabung, near the Perasu Felda land scheme, yesterday due to the floods.

The logger, Yap Yong Poh, 50, said he and his workers were leaving the forest area in two four-wheel-drive vehicles, but could not continue with their journey due to the fast rising river water.

“Our vehicles could not cross the river and we were forced to spend the night in the 4WD on an empty stomach as we had run out of food,” he added.

Facing a similar fate was Felda settler Mat Zain Hassan, 64, who was forced to sleep in his Perodua Kembara last night as he could not cross the river to get to his plantation because of the high water level.

“I was also not able to turn back as the area around me was flooded because of the heavy rain,” he added.

They contacted the Civil Defence Department today which then sent a team to rescue them.

Meanwhile, Gua Musang JPAM officer Mohd Yussalmi Mohd Yusoff said four members were sent to the scene to rescue the victims.--BERNAMA
