KLIA, klia2 launch two special lanes

SEPANG: The Immigration Department yesterday opened two special lanes called Asean Lane and Foreigner eGate at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and klia2.

Its director-general, Datuk Mustafa Ibrahim, said the Asean Lane was for Asean countries’ passport holders while the Foreigner eGate was for foreigners with long-term visas.

He said the lanes would make the immigration process faster and smoother.

“There are five Asean lanes in KLIA, two at the departure gates and three at the arrival gates. In klia2, there are two lanes at each gate,” he said after opening the special lanes at KLIA yesterday.

Mustafa said the lanes would be implemented at Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi and Penang international airports by February.

“About 20 per cent of visitors
are Asean countries’ passport
holders.”

On Foreigner eGate, Mustafa said it was to enhance the procedure and processes at countries’ entry points.

He said the eight Foreigner eGate lanes at KLIA would be operational from Dec 29. The ones at klia2 will begin in February.

“The special lanes will have self-clearance systems and automated biometric systems for smoother and faster processes.”
