USIM student to represent Malaysia at International Holy Quran Competition in Iran

NILAI: Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) student Mohamad Husaini Mahmud, 22, has been selected to represent Malaysia at the 5th International Holy Quran Competition for Muslim Students, to be held at Milad Tower, Tehran, Iran, from Jan 1 to 4 next year.

The competition, organised by the Iranian Academics Quranic Activities Organisation, involves the participation of youths aged 25 and below from 50 countries.

The countries include Azerbaijan, Bosnia, Egypt, Syria and the United States of America.

Invitation for Malaysia’s participation was made through the Islamic Development Department (JAKIM).

Mohamad Husaini, 22, a final year student taking a bachelor’s degree in Arabic and Communications, thanked JAKIM for selecting him to represent the country at the competition.

“It is unexpected, but I will certainly do my best,” he said when met after a programme with USIM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr. Musa Ahmad today.

Mohamad Husaini, who had won various Quran reading competitions, said he would leave for Iran on Dec 30 and accompanied by Anuar Hasin, a lecturer at USIM’s Faculty of Quranic and Sunnah Studies.– BERNAMA
