Pakistanis gather to pay respects to Peshawar victims

KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakistani flag hung at half-mast at the high commission here as a representative from the community, known as the Imam, read verses from the Quran for victims of the Peshawar massacre.

More than 100 of its citizens, from all walks of life, residing in Malaysia gathered at the commission's grounds to pay their respects by reciting prayers and carrying out a candle light vigil.

The event was then followed by the speech of the High Commissioner of Pakistan in Malaysia, Syed Hassan Raza.

"It is like stabbing in the heart of humanity.

"You can kill adults and call it unjust but you can never make innocent children the target of your venom," he said.

Syed Hassan said the massacre has become a big call for the nation.

He said the message from the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was loud and clear, there will be zero tolerance for terrorism from now on.

He also said the gathering at the High Commission gave the Pakistani community a sense of relief and satisfaction as they were able to express their emotions to one another following the incident.

"They (the Pakistani community in Malaysia) wanted to know what was really happening and what the government was going to do about it.

"I can assure you, the government will eliminate such terror acts.

"These prepatrators will be brought to court and get what they deserve," he said.

The evening ended with Maghrib prayers led by the Imam.
