Ringgit sharply higher against US$

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed sharply higher against the US dollar and other major currencies on improved buying sentiment.

As at 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.4620/4650 against the US dollar from 3.4855/4875 on Wednesday.

A dealer said the ringgit was among Asian currencies which strengthened against the US dollar yesterday after the US Federal Reserve hinted that it was on track to raise its interest rates next year.

The local unit advanced against the yen to 2.9240/9273 from Wednesday’s 2.9727/9754 and jumped against the Singapore dollar to 2.6349/6392 from 2.6697/6722 previously.

It rose against the pound to 5.3973/3044 from Wednesday’s 5.4712/4757 and improved against the euro to 4.2676/2723 from 4.3457/3486 previously. Bernama
