Rescued fish breeder back to work

KOTA KINABALU: Newly-rescued Chan Sai Chuin, who was kidnapped by Filipino gunmen in June, is ready to return to the fish farm in Kunak where he was taken from.

Chan, 32, told a press conference here this morning that he will travel to Kunak today and start work tomorrow.

“For security measures, I will go to work in the morning and be back by night.

“But there's nothing to be afraid now as there are many soldiers present at the area,” said Chan, who was accompanied by his wife Chin Pek Nyuen.

The couple will also go back to Chan's hometown in Perak for New Year celebration.

Chan was abducted by gunmen from his fish farm at Kampung Air Sapang on June 16.

He was held hostage for over 170 days before he was rescued in the wee hours of December 10, following lengthy negotiations between Filipino emissaries and the Abu Sayyaf group led by the Sadawan brothers in Jolo.
