Diaper trader loses RM240,000 worth of the items in floods

PASIR MAS: A businesswoman in Rantau Panjang has suffered losses amounting to almost a quarter of a million ringgit when her large stock of baby diapers were destroyed in the flood.

Rokiah Hassan Nordin, 48, said the merchandise was submerged under water in a storehouse in Kampung Kubang Chenok here when the flood swept through Rantau Panjang on Wednesday night.

"The stock of diapers has arrived recently in three lorry containers and I kept it in the storehouse. For every container, the diapers are worth RM80,000," she said.

She said she did not expect the storehouse to be affected by the flood based on previous experience as the premises were located on a high ground.

"But, the situation this year is very bad that even the storehouse is inundated with floodwaters," she said.

Rokiah said she only realised that the storehouse was hit by flood when she went to check the premises on Thursday.

"When the diapers are soaked in water, they become useless and cannot be restored," she said.

She said she and her husband Daud Aziz, 50, had been involved in the business for the last 14 years in Rantau Panjang and this year proved to be a misfortune for them.
