Grander junior tour next year

THE Mamee Junior Tour is set to become bigger and grander next year.

Tennis Malaysia (TM) chairman Mirzan Mahathir said that next year’s tour will increase from eight to 10 legs, excluding the Masters event.

“The Mamee Junior Tour is the biggest youth circuit in Malaysia. Each leg attracted at least 150 players this year and now we want to expand the tour,” said Mirzan yesterday.

“Our goal is to develop a bigger pool of players with quality. We compliment the efforts taken by all parties to develop the sport. We will likely start the tour in February or March.”

Mirzan and his mother, Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah graced the final day of the RM26,000 Mamee Junior Masters at the National Tennis Centre in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

They also gave away the prizes to the champions of the respective age groups.

Selangor players dominated the event, winning three of eight events through Sri Aakash Reddiyar (boys’ Under-16), Imran Daniel Hazli (Under-12) and Suhana Sofia Mohd Adam Das (girls’ Under-14).
