Ringgit slips against US$

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed lower against the US dollar yesterday, as “dollar-buying” sentiment continued to weigh on demand.

As at 5pm, the ringgit was quoted at 3.4860/4880 vis-a-vis the greenback from 3.4750/4780 last Friday.

A dealer said risk appetite for the ringgit weakened on rising demand for the dollar after the US Federal Reserve signalled that it might raise interest rates next year.

The ringgit traded mostly lower against other major currencies.

It depreciated to the Singapore dollar at 2.6443/6478 from 2.6400/6443 last Friday, declined against the pound to 5.4504/4542 from 5.4412/4472 and fell against the euro to 4.2766/2794 from 4.2676/2720.

The domestic unit, however, rose against the yen to 2.9103/9122 from 2.9109/9141 previously. Bernama
