Perak Sultan orders cancellation of New Year festivities

KUALA KANGSAR: The Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah issued a decree today for all entertainment-related New Year celebrations in the state, which involve the state government or any of its agencies, to be cancelled.

The sultan's decree, which also stated that all mosques in the state to conduct solat hajat after Friday prayers tomorrow to ask for the God's help in improving the flood situation, was issued during Sultan Nazrin and wife Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim's visit to flood relief centres, here, earlier today.

Sultan Nazrin also decreed that all school students affected by the disaster will receive two sets of uniforms and shoes from the Sultan Azlan Shah Foundation.

The sultan and Tuanku Zara, accompanied by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Zambry Abd. Kadir, state police chief Datuk Osman Salleh and state officials, were earlier given a briefing on latest flood situations at the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council here.

Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara then took a boat to visit inundated areas, before going to SK Sayong to visit victims there.

The entourage then went to the Chenderoh Dam, before visiting victims at relief centres in Lenggong.
