Terengganu gets respite as flood water recedes

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Terengganu has improved as water began to recede in the state, enabling some evacuees to return home.
National Security Council secretary Datuk Thajudeen Abdul Wahab said 115 people in two Marang relief centres and the 44 victims at three centres in Setiu had been allowed home.
“However, evacuees placed in relief centres in five remaining districts, Kuala Terengganu, Besut, Hulu Terengganu, Kemaman and Dungun, have yet to be given the clearance to go back to their respective homes, as the conditions have not improved,” he told the New Straits Times today.
As at 4pm, Thajudeen said Kemaman recorded the most number of evacuees with 19, 919 victims, while there were 7,640 evacuees in Dungun.
“The weather in Terengganu has gradually improved. Rainfall was not as heavy as they were for the past few days,” he said.
