Situation worsen in Kelantan, other states unchanged

KUALA LUMPUR: The flood situation in Kelantan remained critical as the number of flood victims increased to 134,139 at the relief centres tonight compared with 124,966 in the afternoon, while there was not much changes in the situation in Terengganu, Pahang, Perak and Johor.

Apart from Kelantan with 134,139 flood victims, Pahang recorded (31,669 victims), Terengganu (24,097), Perak (7,539) and Johor (332).

In KELANTAN, 32,999 families were placed at 308 flood relief centres at 9pm compared with 124,966 people from 30,131 families in the afternoon.

According to the state Social Welfare Department director Nik Omar Nik Abdul Rahman, Kota Baharu still recorded the highest number of flood victims with 42,469 followed by Pasir Mas (23,568), Kuala Krai (23,169), Tumpat (30,569), Gua Musang (7,529), Tanah Merah (3,546), Machang (3,097) and Pasir Putih (192).

IN TERENGGANU, according to the Terengganu National Security Council portal, the number of flood victims dropped to 24,097 tonight compared with 24,497 in the afternoon.

However, there was little change in the flood situation except in Kuala Terengganu where the number of flood victims increased from 770 in the afternoon to 1,450 tonight.

Dungun recorded an almost unchanged figure with 10,969 and Hulu Terengganu recorded 171.

IN PERAK, the number of people affected by floods showed a slight drop in Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Perak Tengah and Kerian as the night list showed 7,539 people compared with 7,581 in the afternoon.

However, in Perak Tengah the number increased from 3,870 to 4,026 people involving 1,095 families compared with 1,055 families while Kuala Kangsar also registered a slight drop from 2,785 to 2,566 in the afternoon.

IN PAHANG, the number of flood victims continued to rise with 31,669 flood victims recorded at night compared with 31,601 in the afternoon.

A spokesman from the Pahang Police Headquarters said eight districts in Pahang were affected by floods with Temerloh recording the highest number of victims with 6,965 people from 1,585 families.

“Jerantut (6,781 from 1,566 families), Kuantan (5,860 from 1,585 families), Pekan (4,519 from 1,201 families), Maran (3,729 from 907 families), Lipis (2,729 from 806 families), Bera (1,061 from 272 families) and Rompin (25 from 6 families,” he said. IN JOHOR, the number of evacuees at the relief centres dropped from 447 from 117 families to 332 people from 85 families, said the state Flood Control Centre. – BERNAMA
