Floods: Early BR1M payments to ease burden

KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government will continue to work together with the Kelantan state government to ensure that assistance and aid is delivered to the flood victims.

In a statement posted on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's official facebook page and blog, he said the government have announced three additional steps to ease the burden of the flood victims including an additional RM500 million for the flood relief fund which will be channelled to all the states affected by the flood.

"We will also try to accelerate the BR1M payments to the middle or end of January and will arrange for financial institutions to re-set repayment schedule of loans to flood victims," he said.

Najib reiterated that he had full faith and confidence towards Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as the chairman of the National Disaster Management Committee

As for the declaration of emergency in flood affected states, Najib said there was no necessity to do so after taking into considerations the implications involved.

Najib noted that every effort made by the government had been intensified as though the situation was an emergency and all the relevant agencies have been directed to intensify flood relief efforts.
