CYBERJAYA: Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek stresses on the importance of national preparedness in managing disaster crisis especially from the aspect of communications.
He said, he would bring the matter up in the Cabinet tomorrow.
" Do we have a high level of national preparedness? And, this must be discussed as well as developed further as we cannot rely on one side to make all the preparations when it requires every level of the society to be ready to face disasters as well.," he said at the launch of `#TogetherWithU' and `#BersamaMu' through an integrated mobile-enabled system called as e-Bantuan Banjir (eBB) Platform initiated by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and those in the ICT sector.
Telcos were also asked to prepare with plan A, B and even C if necessary to ensure there will be no disruption in services during disasters, Ahmad Shabery added.
He said the ministry's readiness must also focus on its core task in ICT and communications.
On the spread of lies and false news via social media, he said those who did so with malicious intent could be seen as the nation's No. 1 enemy for their irresponsible acts especially during disasters.
In this respect, he said this was the best time for the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to review all of its laws as they had limitations too. The best approach for now is through education starting from the school level, he added.
