2,000 Selangor Umno volunteers clean up Pahang, Perak

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Umno has deployed 2,000 of its members to Pahang and Perak to assist with post-flood clean-ups in the two states.

Selangor Umno Liaison chairman Datuk Seri Noh Omar said 500 members from 22 divisions in the state departed for Temerloh, Pahang today and the programme will be conducted in stages until Sunday.

Noh, who is also Tanjong Karang MP, said besides cleaning the homes of flood victims, they will also focus on public facilities such as schools, mosques and surau.

“This is the second phase. We provided 300 tonnes of food in the first phase.

“For this second phase we decided to supply manpower and cleaning equipment such as water jets which will be sent to four selected villages in the two states,” he told reporters after flagging off a convoy of 30 four-wheel drive vehicles and four buses to Temerloh, Pahang here today.

He added that several Selangor Umno divisions will also be making contributions to various areas in Kelantan.

Meanwhile, in Kemaman, 200 members of Sukarelawan Darul Takzim also joined in to help clean up flood stricken areas in Kemaman and Johor since Monday.

Their representative, Noor Azzam Baker, who is a volunteer with the Johor Baru Civil Defence Department (JPAM), said the squad was made up of various state agencies such as JPAM, Bintang Selatan association and other associations under the state Youth and Sports Department.

“We’ve been in Kemaman and Dungun since Monday to help clean public areas such as mosques, surau and schools. We also sent food supplies,” he said. -- Bernama
