Directors charged with misusing money

KUALA LUMPUR: Two former directors of a property vendor firm were charged with misusing over RM100,000 of the firm's money.

N. Ganesh and P. Janarthiny claimed trial at the Sessions Court to seven counts of committing breach of trust with a total RM107,143.50 belonging to Fairview Properties Sdn Bhd during a four-year period from 2005.

Ganesh and Janathirny, aged 45 and 37, were accused of misappropriating the monies kept in the company's account at a commercial bank branch at Menara Dion, Jalan Sultan Ismail here between Jan 27, 2005 and Feb 11, 2009.

The duo were alleged to have used the money - each time between RM850 and RM76,530.51 - to make payments for their self-benefit without authorisation from the firm's board of directors.

Both accused may be jailed up to 20 years and fined if convicted. Ganesh may also be whipped if found guilty.

Deputy public prosecutor Mahadhir Mohd Khairudin urged the court to impose RM50,000 bail with one surety for each accused.

Counsel Datuk Geethan Ram Vincent, who acted for Ganesh and Janathirny, pleaded for bail be set at RM4,000 instead because his clients have given full cooperation to the police since investigation began in 2010.

Judge Mat Ghani Abdullah granted RM10,000 bail with one surety for each accused and fixed the matter for two-day hearing beginning May 11.
