PADANG BESAR: Two suspected smuggler crashed into the gate of Malaysia-Thai border here early this morning in their haste to escape from the authorities.
In the 3.10am incident, the men who were in pick-up truck suddenly sped off towards the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex when the General Operations Forces personnel tried to approach the vehicle.
However, the suspects managed to flee on foot towards Thai border upon crashing the vehicle.
Perlis police chief Datuk Zull Aznam Harun confirmed the incident and said checks revealed that the suspects were trying to smuggle cigarettes and liquor from Padang Besar Duty Free Complex to southern Thai.
