Currency fluctuation will not stop M'sians from studying in US

KUALA LUMPUR: The increase in the exchange rate will not discourage the Malaysian students from pursuing their studies in the United States.

United States embassy deputy chief of mission Edgard D. Kagan however acknowledged that the rising in the currency will have some impact if it continues for a long period of time.

"The currency has fluctuated over the years, but I personally think that it will not deter the Malaysians and citizens from other countries from studying in the US.

"When the people focus on value of money, they will recognise the quality and significance of United States education. I think they are willing to make this kind of investment for their own advantages," he said this after launching the US University Fairs at Berjaya Times Hotel, here, today.

The fair offers a platform for parents, students, counsellors and teachers to access information on applying to US universities

Kagan said more than 6,700 Malaysian students are currently studying in the United States.
