Palanivel not focused on resolving MIC crisis: Muhyiddin

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has reprimanded MIC president Datuk Seri S Palanivel for losing focus in handling the party crisis.

This, he said, has left Barisan Nasional with no choice but to step in as the situation was getting out of hand.

"The way I see it, it seems like the president is not so focused, I am not criticising but the situation has gotten out of control and this is not a good sign," he said.

He pointed out that this has left Barisan Nasional leadership with no choice but to intervene.

"We have to interfere as it seems there is no solution to the crisis and this is only for the benefit of the party," said Muhyiddin.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and Muhyiddin would be meeting MIC top leadership soon to assist the party in drawing up the best solution to the party's ongoing crisis.

"I view the happenings in the party (MIC) as a serious matter, as it is an important component in Barisan Nasional," he told reporters after launching the new Bahasa Melayu Institute of Teachers Education.

"I have discussed this matter with the prime minister yesterday, we will do what is necessary to resolve the crisis and ensure the party remains relevant to the public and the coalition," he said adding that the party crisis also affected Barisan Nasional.

"It is important to ensure the support from the public to the party, its leadership and Barisan Nasional is not affected," he said.

He added that the party will be asked to re-look at the suggestions made by RoS.
