MH370: Tahlil session for passengers after Friday prayers: Jakim

KUALA LUMPUR: Muslims throughout the country are urged to hold tahlil and prayer sessions for all passengers and crew members of the Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370 after Friday prayers today.

The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) director-general Datuk Othman Mustapha said in a statement that the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, Masjid Putra and Masjid Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin in Putrajaya as well as all mosques under the supervision of the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department (Jawi) would hold the special Tahlil session after the Friday prayers.

“At the same time, all mosques under the administration of the State Islamic Religious Departments throughout Malaysia are requested to cooperate by taking similar initiatives,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He said that a special meeting of the National Fatwa Committee on March 25 last year, however, decided that the Prayers for the Missing Body need not be held as it was sufficient to hold the Tahlil session.

Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman today announced that the ill-fated flight MH370 was officially declared as having met an accident under the international aviation regulations and all the 239 people on board were considered as dead.

The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft was enroute to Beijing, China from the KL International Airport in the early hours of March 8, last year, when it lost contact with the Air Control Tower, barely an hour after taking off at 12.41am. – BERNAMA
