3-months jail for former MB aide

PUTRAJAYA: The Court of Appeal sentenced the former Terengganu menteri besar’s political secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Ramzi Mohamad Zubir to three months jail for sending threatening messages and for slander.

In December 2013, the Kuala Trengganu High Court had reversed an earlier conviction and jail term.

The Court of Appeal’s decision was made by a three a man panel led by Court of Appeal president Tan Sri Md Raus Sharif.

In Nov 2011, the Kuala Terengganu Sessions Court had sentenced Ramzi to three months jail for four separate offences with each sentence to run consecutively.

All four offences were related to sending threatening short messaging services (SMS) to three former Barisan Nasional assemblymen.

They were Mohd Ariffin Abdullah, Abdul Halim Jusoh and Datuk Rosol Wahid, then Paka, Permaisuri and Ajil assemblymen respectively.

The Sessions Court also sentenced Ramzi for slandering then Deputy State Secretary Wan Ahamad Wan Muda, who was then a confidential secretary to the menteri besar-by sending a threatening SMS through Wan Ahamad’s mobile phone.
