30 illegal immigrants nabbed in Ops Selera

KUALA TERENGGANU: Thirty illegal immigrants were arrested by the State Immigration Department enforcement officers during the Ops Selera, held here on Wednesday night.

Its director Wan Suhaimi Wan Muhammad said six food stalls around the city were checked and 63 foreign workers were investigated before the enforcement team nabbed 30 of them.

Wan Suhaimi said 28 of the detainees were Thai nationals, a Cambodian and an Indonesian aged between 16 and 40. They were 17 men and 13 women.

"We brought them to the Ajil Detention depot, Hulu Terengganu, for further investigation as they were involved in Section 6(3) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid permit and Rule 39 (b) of the Immigration Rules 1963 for violating the social visit passes," he said.

Wan Suhaimi said the detainees' employers were also requested by the Immigration's head office to assist the investigation following the incident.
