Adenan Satem appointed Sarawak Rela advisor

KUCHING: Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem was appointed as the state Rela (People’s Volunteer Corps) advisor at the 43rd National-Level Rela Anniversary celebration, here, today.

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem was made a state Rela commissioner.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi pinned their respective rank insignas on them at the event.

In his speech earlier, Zahid said the celebration, the first ever national-level Rela function to be held in the state, was to show its full support and loyalty to Adenan as the new Sarawak chief minister.

“We will carry out whatever directives from him and the state government for the continued benefit of the people and for peace and security in the state,”

Zahid noted that RELA members were committed and enthusiastic in carrying out their tasks and responsibilities.

He said at present there were 260,000 Rela members in Sarawak.

Zahid also hoped that the state government and its members of parliament would continue to support Rela by providing financial allocations to buy uniforms and other facilities. --BERNAMA
