BNM: Malaysia has US$110.6 billion in unencumbered reserve assets

KUALA LUMPUR: The country’s official reserve assets amounted to US$110.6 billion as at end January 2015, Bank Negara Malaysia said.

Other foreign currency assets amounted to US$1.1 billion as at the same period.

In a statement released today, Bank Negara explained that the pre-determined short-term outflows of foreign currency loans would amount to US$1.5 billion rising from scheduled repayments of external borrowings by the Government.

The data excludes projected foreign currency inflows arising from interest income and the drawdown of project loans amounting to US$3.6 billion in the next 12 months.

BNM said that the contingent short-term net drain on foreign currency assets are Government guarantees of foreign debt due within one year, amounting to US$82 million.
