Four toxic storage buildings caught fire

SEREMBAN: Four toxic storage buildings owned by Kualiti Alam Sdn Bhd in Sendayan caught fire at about 1.30pm here.

A spokesman from the Seremban 2 Fire and Rescue Department said five fire engines with a total of 22 officers including the Hazardous Materials Unit (Hazmat) team were rushed to the site upon receiving the call.

"We are currently trying to control the fire from spreading," he said.

He added that no causalities were reported.

The public were also advised to stay away from the area within two-kilometre radius.

Thick smoke up to 50 metres high blanketed Sendayan skies following the fire.

A contractor who refused to be named said that the structures were already up in flames when he arrived at about 2pm.

Staff wearing masks were seen transporting those who were still working inside the building out in 4WD vehicles.

"We were told that everyone was evacuated from the buildings and no one was left inside," said the spokesman.

Officers on site asked onlookers to leave the compound for their own safety.
