Traders happy with the new and comfortable Labuan Central Market

LABUAN: Vendors and stall owners in the Labuan Central Market are enjoying good business in a comfortable setting since they moved into the new facility in November last year.

The building which houses over 500 tenants selling dried goods, vegetables and other perishables on the ground floor as well as handicraft and boutique stores on the first floor, will be officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak this afternoon.

One of them, Jawan Parah who sells dried seafood items, said she has been in business since the 90s and this was the best premise they have been on since moving several times.

"At our previous place at Pasar Tani, also downtown, I always had the inconvenience whenever it rains or becomes windy as my stall was located at the side row.

"I like this new market and I believe this would be our spot permanently from now on," she said when met at the market.

The 55 year old mother of three whose husband works as a government staff, said most of her clients are those from Peninsular who like to buy the goods to bring home.

Meanwhile, a staff of a clothes shop said they have also enjoyed better comfort at the first floor air-conditioned area.

"However business is still slow as we have only opened for three months here, I think it would pick up soon," said the staff who declined to be named.
