Mosquito breeding construction sites to be shut down: Subramaniam

PUTRAJAYA: Construction sites positive to be mosquito breeding grounds will be ordered to cease operations for 14 days for clean-up starting today, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam today.

He said the two-week stop order would cost developers money , adding it would be cheaper to ensure the cleanliness at their sites.

"We are now taking tougher actions against those allowed their premises to be mosquito breed sites and prepared also to take legal actions against them too," he told reporters before chairing the post-cabinet meeting.

On organ transplant, he said 19,353 Malaysians are on the waiting list and 19,329 of them on that list waited for kidney transplant.

The rest waited for liver (four recipients are children and five are adults); lung (seven),heart (six) and lung as well as heart (two).

Dr Subramaniam, who is also an organ donor, said, as of Dec 31 last year, some 37,000 people had pledged to donate their organs.
