Ringgit ends lower against USD

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit eased against the US dollar in late trading today as the greenback firmed up in most overseas markets due to a stronger buying support, a trader said.

At 5 pm, the local currency ended at 3.6445/6475 against the greenback versus 3.6250/5280 at Tuesday’s close.

A dealer said the greenback remained strong, hovering at 11-year peak, supported by the recent gain in the US bond yields.

“Investors will now await for fresh clue for direction ahead of US job data and a European Central Bank meeting later this week,” she said.

The ringgit was also traded lower against other major currencies.

The local unit weakened against the Singapore dollar to 2.6700/6724 from Tuesday’s 2.6586/6612 and depreciated against the British pound to 5.5980/5047 from 5.5691/5759.

It fell against the yen to 3.0457/0487 from 3.0276/0314 yesterday and eased against the euro to 4.0578/0619 from 4.0549/0594.– BERNAMA
