Lee Kuan Yew weakens further: Singapore PMO

KUALA LUMPUR: Former Singapore Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew who was diagnosed with severe pneumonia has weakened further, the Prime Minister's Office said in a statement today.

Lee, 91, has been in the intensive care unit of the Singapore General Hospital since his admission on Feb 5.

This would be his seventh week in hospital, whereby he is being helped to breathe using mechanical ventilation, a form of life support.

Prayers and well wishes are pouring in from around the world, as the condition of the founding father of modern Singapore worsens.

A special area has been dedicated for well-wishers to leave cards, flowers and gifts for Lee at the hospital.

Kuan Yew was the first Prime Minister of Singapore, governing the city state for three decades.
