Popular singer arrested for drug abuse

KUALA LUMPUR: A former lead singer of a popular local pop-rock group was arrested by police for drug abuse at a hotel in Jalan Jelatek, here, last night.

Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Khairuldin Saad said the 36-year-old male suspect who tested positive for syabu was detained in the raid at 9pm.

“The police arrested the singer who was in the midst of buying the drug. His urine sample tested positive for amphetamine,” he told Bernama today.

Khairuldin said the suspect was remanded for three days from today.

The case was being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act which carries a fine of up to RM5,000 or jailed for up to two years, if found guilty. - BERNAMA
