No GST on PPR house rents

KUALA LUMPUR: The Goods and Services Tax (GST) will not be imposed on rental of units under Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) People’s Housing Programme (PPR).

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib said the GST rate of six per cent will be imposed on rental of commercial premises.

“In principle, the GST will not be imposed on house rentals, compounds and summonses,” he told reporters after attending a Town Hall session with Batu constituents at the Batu Muda Community Hall, near here today.

He said the rental rate for PPR units reserved for low-income groups in the city was still RM124 per month and will not be subjected to any tax for the moment.

According to him, however, the GST rate of six per cent will be imposed on the rental of commercial premises such as stalls, factories and shops as well as for the use of halls, stadiums and sports complexes.

The GST will also be imposed on receipts, tickets, for use of facilities such as toilets, horseback riding, boating and swimming pool.

He said a list of services that will be subject to GST will be issued to inform the public and explanation sessions will be held to avoid public confusion regarding the GST.

GST will be implemented on April 1 and DBKL will open special counters for the public to seek clarifications about it. – BERNAMA
