Fewer dengue cases in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: The dengue situation in Penang has improved in the third week of March.

The state has reported a 24 per cent drop in dengue cases compared to the second week of the month.

State Health Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin said 56 dengue cases were treated from March 15 to 21 against 74 cases from March 8 to 14.

"The state has recorded 1,359 dengue cases as of March 21 against 490 cases in the same period last year," he said in a press statement

He said the death cases this year as of March due to dengue had remained at five compared to three in the same period last year.

Dr Afif said nine dengue infested locations in Penang had been kept under control at four districts.

The locations are the Jay Series Condominium in the Northeast district, Lintang Bukit Kecil, Persiaran Bukit Kecil, Taman Sahabat and Lavinia Apartments in the Southwest district, TamanPermatang Tinggi, Taman Alma and Perkampungan Berapit in the Seberang Prai Tengah district and Telok Air Tawar in the Seberang Perai Utara district.

"The dengue situation at Jalan Lim Lean Teng in the northeast district has not been contained with two hot spots identified at The Sri Bayu Flat and Bandar Baru Teluk Kumbar in the Southwest district," he said.
