KL shares end higher, CI up 8.46pts

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares on Bursa Malaysia ended higher today with the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) adding 8.46 points, lifted by gains in heavyweights.

At 5 pm, the benchmark index stood at 1,821.83 points, after hovering between 1,815.02 and 1,825.76 throughout the day. Gainers edged losers 400 to 383 with 340 counters unchanged, 664 untraded and 30 others suspended.

Total volume fell to 1.92 billion units worth RM1.7 billion from Friday’s 1.64 billion units worth RM1.82 billion.

Heavyweight Maybank added 6.0 sen to RM9.27, while Tenaga gained 12 sen to RM14.32, Public Bank improved 10 sen to RM18.76 and Axiata rose 3.0 sen to RM7.09.

Privasia, which topped the most active counter, saw its shares traded 3.5 sen higher at 40 sen followed by Ingenuity, which remained flat at 8.0 sen.

A dealer said the optimism which fuelled the market was a spillover effect from regional bourses, with China stocks nearing a seven-year high on hopes for more infrastructure spending and policy stimulus.

On the scoreboard, the FBM Emas Index gained 44.43 points to 12,503.08, the FBMT100 Index increased 49.02 points to 12,196.76 and the FBM Ace jumped 91.2 points to 7,063.22.

The FBM Emas Syariah Index went up 45.07 points to 13,075.52 and the FBM 70 increased 24.59 points to 13,406.45.

On a sectoral basis, the Industrial Index eased 5.82 points to 3,340.09, the Plantation Index fell 40.49 points to 7,743.63 but the Finance Index rose 47.79 points to 16,128.35.

Main Market volume decreased to 978.79 million shares worth RM1.5 billion from 1.08 billion shares worth RM1.7 billion on Friday.

Turnover on the ACE Market jumped to 854.13 million shares worth RM190.9 million from 484.23 million shares valued at RM104.74 million previously.

Warrants expanded to 87.6 million units worth RM16.54 million from 73.56 million units worth RM11.39 million previously.

Consumer products accounted for 139.32 million shares traded on the Main Market, industrial products (212.39 million), construction (33.27 million), trade and services (350.44 million), technology (47.75 million), infrastructure (10.73 million), SPAC (23.1 million), finance (34.42 million), hotels (7.52 million), properties (92.44 million), plantations (12.99 million), mining (211,000), REITs (14.14 million) and closed/fund (19,000). -- BERNAMA
