MH17: Police to deploy forensic team to Donetsk

CYBERJAYA: Police will deploy its forensic team to Donetsk, Ukraine on Saturday to resume recovery operation into the downing of flight MH17 in July.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said the team, comprising of seven policemen together with a team from Dutch will resume operation at the area.

"As we all know, Malaysia is one of the team in the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) so the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Razak) has instructed me to deploy a team together with the Dutch investigation team to resume recovery operation.

"The team will be deployed on Saturday and they are expected to enter the crash site on Tuesday (April 14)," he told reporters after receiving three awards from the Limkokwing University in Cyberjaya, here, today.

Khalid added the team will focus on recovering wreckages, evidences as well as remains to assist in identifying one unidentified Dutch national.

On July 17 last year, Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot down near conflict-ridden Donetsk in Ukraine as it was travelling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, killing all 298 passengers and crew
