KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened slightly higher against the greenback this morning as weak US economic data weighed on investors’ buying sentiment.
At 9am, the local unit was quoted at 3.6790/6820 to the US dollar compared with yesterday’s close of 3.7045/7075.
Against other major currencies, the ringgit traded mixed. It appreciated versus the Singapore dollar to 2.7145/7169 from 2.7211/7253 on Wednesday and strengthened against the yen to 3.0911/0939 from 3.0987/0015 yesterday.
The domestic currency, however, weakened against the British pound to 5.4674/4733 from yesterday’s 5.4489/4552 and depreciated vis-a-vis the euro to 3.9443/9482 from 3.9205/9251 on Wednesday. --BERNAMA
