PM: Bandung Declaration is relevant to face new challenges

BANDUNG: The principles of the Bandung Declaration issued 60 years ago remains relevant until now, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today.

He said the declaration produced at the first Asian-African Conference (AAC) in 1955 as a document for co-operation and to fight against colonialism and imperialism had mostly been achieved.

"It is very significant not only as it is symbolic but also it is meaningful and carries principles and spirit that remains relevant now.

"Our participation in AAC is emphasised on ties with South-South countries as the co-operation is important," he said at the end of his two-day visit to coincide with the 60th anniversary celebrations of AAC here.

Therefore, Najib said Malaysia felt that the spirit of the declaration should be kept alive to face new challenges which were confronting countries in the South as well as other developed nations.
