KUALA NERANG: A supermarket at a two-storey shopping block here was destroyed in a fire this morning.
However, no one was injured in the 9.40am blaze as the supermarket was still closed then.
A spokesman with the Kuala Nerang Fire and Rescue Department said they received a distress call at 9.42am and a team of 35 firemen was dispatched to the scene.
He said the team, assisted by 35 volunteer firefighters from Kampung Berjaya, Kuala Kedah, Taman Mutiara, Pokok Sena and Seberang Nyonya managed to control the fire by about 11am.
“The fire destroyed the entire ground floor and 20 per cent of the first floor of the supermarket,” he said.
