Penal Code (amendment) Bill 2015 on terrorism activities passed

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Negara passed the Penal Code (amendment) Bill 2015.

In tabling the amendments, Home Home Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar the bill specifies an extended categories for the support for militant activities and the penalties under Section 130j(2).

He said the support under the section includes an offer to provide assistance to travel abroad for the purpose of terrorism activity; harbouring, showcase or distribute items related to militant groups; build or transport vehicle with intent or knowledge that that it will be used by terrorist group and assist a person to be involved in terrorism activity.

Section 130j states that whoever knowingly and in any manner solicits, support for, or gives support to any terrorist group or the commission of terrorist act, shall be punished with imprisonment for life or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 30 years or with fine and liable to forfeiture of any property used or intended to be used in connection with the commission of the offence.

Prevention of Crime (amendment) Bill 2015 and the Prison (amendment) Bill 2015 were also passed.

The tabling Criminal Procedure Code (amendment) Bill was however postponed to next session.
