Early voting in Rompin

ROMPIN: Early voting for the Rompin by-election began at 8am today involving 545 policemen, military personnel and their spouses.

The voting involving 260 policemen and 285 army personnel are conducted at four polling centres.

A total of 315 voters cast their votes at the Royal Malaysian Air Force 322 Squadron's Dewan Seri Ibam in Bukit Ibam, Rompin police headquarters (177 voters), Muadzam Shah police station (38 voters), and Tekek police station in Pulau Tioman (15 voters).

Voting centres at the Rompin police headquarters and Dewan Seri Ibam will be open until 5pm while the other two will close at 2pm.

Rompin by-election Returning Officer Datuk Fadzilla Salleh said ballot papers from all polling centres would be kept at the Rompin police headquarters before the tallying process on May 5.

Meanwhile, rain did not deter the voters from casting their ballots at the Rompin police station.

The by-election is held following the death of Tan Sri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis in a helicopter crash on April 4 in Semenyih, Selangor.

The by-election is a straight fight between Datuk Hasan Arifin of Barisan Nasional and Pas' Nazri Ahmad.
