Gruelling 24 hours for Rompin candidates

ROMPIN: Almost a fortnight of campaigning, the last 24 hours will prove to be very crucial for the two contestants in the Rompin by-election.

A more hectic schedule awaits them before official campaign comes to an end at midnight on Monday.

Candidates from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pas have been on an energy-sapping campaign trail to cover Rompin, a parliamentary constituency which is bigger than that of Malacca and Negri Sembilan.

BN candidate Datuk Hasan Arifin and Pas' Nazri Ahmad now have a packed meet-the-people schedule in the final leg of their campaign.

Seasoned politician and popular among the locals, Hasan has pledged to work out solutions to issues affecting the Rompin people.

"Local issues include traders who unscrupulously increase the price of goods, job opportunities and improving the lives of Orang Asli. I believe everything can be sorted out.

"If given the mandate, I will bring the people's voice to the government. I am prepared to serve the people," said Rompin-born Hasan.

The 62-year-old said he was upbeat on winning in the polls.

Meanwhile, Nazri who has been described as humble is championing issues related to the Good and Services Tax (GST) and Felda settlers in his campaign pitch.

However, the 40-year-old, who has spent the past few days campaigning in Tioman Island had often caused dissatisfaction among Pas supporters and other constituents for failing to show up during scheduled events, besides changing his itineraries at the last minute.
