PKR expects less than 68pc voter turnout in Permatang Pauh

PENANTI: PKR predicts a less than 68 per cent voter turnout in the Permatang Pauh by-election on May 7.

Its strategic director Sim Tze Tzin said the party had called 406 respondents, some of which were outstation voters, and found that less than 68 per cent had said they will cast their ballots on Thursday.

He said this was a worrying figure, citing DAP's loss to BN in Teluk Intan last year.

"We fear that with the low voter turnout, what happened in Teluk Intan (where DAP lost to BN) would happen here in Permatang Pauh.

"Dyana Sofya had a bad experience in Teluk Intan, when the voter turnout was less than 70 per cent," he said, at the party's daily press conference in Yayasan Aman here, today.

When asked of his hopes, Sim said he would leave the decision to the wisdom of the voters.

In the Teluk Intan by-election, Dyana was defeated by Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong who won with a majority of 238 votes.

The 2014 by-election saw a low turnout of 66.67 per cent.
