Police cripples international drug syndicate, 17 arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: Police foiled an international drug syndicate with the arrest of 17 suspects including a 'kingpin' and confiscated RM51 million worth of drugs in separate raids around Klang Valley and Prai.

Federal Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the operation was conducted from 4.40pm Monday and 10.30pm Tuesday.

"Eleven raids were conducted in Prai, Penang and Klang Valley areas including Petaling Jaya, Cheras and Kepong.

"Police arrested 17 syndicate members including a woman and two Bangladeshi national aged between 24 and 57," he said.

In the operation, he said, police seized 370 kg of drugs comprising of 220kg believed to be syabu, 132 kg pills and powder believed to be ecstasy and 18kg of drugs believed to be ketamine and two vacuum packers machine believed to be used to package the drugs.

Mokhtar said the raiding team also confiscated 18 vehicles worth about RM2.1 million, jewellery and RM129,000 cash.

He said the suspects were remanded until Tuesday.
