Happy Teachers Day

THE Malaysian education system is primed to prepare young Malaysians for the challenges of the 21st century and teachers are the frontliners of this mission.

However, the sheer number of teachers - 419,820 primary and secondary schoolteachers in total - makes it difficult to train them to be competent enough to spearhead the effort. The lack of facilities in certain schools due to geographical-related constraints, for example, is also a nagging obstacle.

With high expectations and an increasing workload, there is an indication that a good number of teachers is demoralised and frustrated in their jobs.

But a group of teachers is taking on these challenges positively for the sheer love of their vocation.

Based on the belief that the best inspiration to educators are other educators, a group of teachers is spreading their enthusiasm through technology.

Read their stories in Learning Curve this Sunday (May 17).

Also in the issue is information on how English Language teachers can win free places at an upcoming international conference organised by the Malaysian English Language Teaching Association from June 1-3.
