PAC: No need to call PM, Jho Low on 1MDB yet

KUALA LUMPUR: The Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) said it does not see the need yet to question Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak or businessman Low Taek Jho for its probes into 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).

"We don't see the need at the moment," he said when asked whether PAC would call Najib, who is also Finance Minister and the billionaire linked to 1MDB, also known as Jho Low.

PAC chairman Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said the committee would call up current 1MDB chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy and his predecessor Datuk Shahrul Ibrahim Halmi on May 26.

The committee would also summon the state sovereign fund's board of directors, and the three auditing firms that have audited the company owned by the finance ministry.

"As for now, it is too early to make any conclusions," said Nur Jazlan.

He also said the committee was satisfied with the cooperation given by Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Irwan Serigar Abdullah and Economic Planning Unit (EPU) director-general Datuk Seri Dr Rahamat Bivi Yusoff, who were summoned earlier today.

"This proved that the government, especially the Finance Ministry and EPU, practices transparency, credibility and accountability," he added.
