Trader jailed for two years over IS link

KUALA LUMPUR: Trader Mohd Rosmadi Che Daud is jailed two years for trying to support terrorist group Islamic State (IS) by attempted flight to Syria on Sept 25 last year.

Today the 43-year-old pleaded guilty to trying to support IS by attempting to board an Istanbul-bound Qatar Airways flight at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Sepang, at 8.55am on Sept 25. He was arrested the same day.

High Court judge Kamardin Hashim ordered Rosmadi to serve his jail term from his date of arrest.

Rosmadi's two co-accused— architect Mohd Syafrein Rasid and technician Mohamad Yusoffe Ishak, both 27— however maintained their non-guilty plea of committing the same offence.

The trio were the first Malaysians to be hauled up to court for their alleged intention to join IS.

Deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin prosecuted. Counsel Ahmad Kamal Abu Bakar and Arik Zakri Abdul Kadir acted for Rosmadi.
