Elaine Kang return to stage after 7 years

KUALA LUMPUR: Penang-born artiste Datuk Elaine Kang returned to the stage last weekend to mark her 35th anniversary as an entertainer.

Held at the Plenary Hall in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), the one-night only Elaine Kang Live 2015 was a sold-out affair. It marked Kang’s return to live performance after seven years.

At the show, which ran about two hours, the singer/actress/TV host Kang performed mainly cover versions of hit songs such as Thank You For the Music (popularised by ABBA), Yesterday Once More (The Carpenters) and the patriotic tune Sejahtera Malaysia.

She also performed in duet performances with popular 80s singer Zaiton Sameon for Maafkan Diriku and That’s What Friends Are For that had the crowd cheering.

Kang who launched her career in the early 1980s, has recorded over 30 albums (26 Chinese, one English and three Malay). Her contribution to the industry also earned her the honorary fellowship in Music from the London College of Music United Kingdom in 2000.

Music aside, Kang has also made her appearances in films such as Red Haired Tumbler in Malaya. She was also hosted the hit TV shows Kisah Benar.

The concert was backed by a 20-piece band, 12 dancers and a six-piece chorus.
