Involvement of triad members in security companies still under control: Zahid Hamidi

KUALA LUMPUR: FOURTY-eight security companies have had their operating license revoked for failing to adhere to Home Ministry's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and guidelines, Dewan Rakyat told.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the ministry would not hesitate to cancel more licenses if company owners were found to have flouted the law including hiring triad members or sublet license to others.

"We won't compromise this. However, I assure that the involvement of triad members in security companies are still under control and mostly reported in Selangor, according to police intel. Maximum number of security companies is 800 for better monitoring by the authorities. Both the employers and the hired guards are required to go for mandatory course by Bukit Aman.

"Out of some 150,000 registered security guards nationwide only 44,174 are foreigners," said Zahid in response to a question by Datuk Noraini Ahmad (BN- Parit Sulong) on the extent of the seriousness on the involvement of secret societies in security companies as reported recently.
