Tawau ready to host SAGA 2015

TAWAU: The host of the Seventh Sabah Games (SAGA 2015) from May 30 to June 7 is working round the clock to prepare for the arrival of 7,381 athletes, officials and volunteers from 26 districts and Brunei.

“The Biennial Games will be officially opened by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman on June 1, while Sabah Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan is scheduled to close the games on June 6,” said SAGA 2015 organising chairman Datuk Ismail Mayakub after chairing an organising committee meeting, here today.

He said this year’s edition would feature 19 sports which would be held at various venues, including Lahad Datu and Semporna.

“Lahad Datu will host Women’s football and Silat while Semporna host three sports, including volleyball,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sabah Youth and Sports Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Datuk Suzanah Liaw a pre-selection was held before identifying athletes for the games, so as to ensure only quality athletes competed in the games.

“Our main aim is to see only quality athletes participating in the games,” she said adding that SAGA would also be a platform for Sabah to identify athletes for SUKMA which will be hosted by Sarawak next year. -- Bernama
