Throwback Thursday: Cleared for takeoff

The restructuring of Malaysia Airlines has been in the news recently, following reports that as part of the airline’s turnaround plan, employees will receive letters this week indicating their future with the company.

It was reported that about 6,000 existing staff will be retrenched, while others will be employed by a new company set up to manage the airline’s business.

Employees retrenched will be given a severance package, as well as assistance in placement for new employment elsewhere.

It is indeed a trying period for the staff, but also an important milestone in the crucial effort to navigate the national airline back to profitability.

This week’s Throwback Thursday looks back at the early formative years of our national carrier, from its origins as Malayan Airways in 1946.
