Norman KRU appointed to IFPI board

KUALA LUMPUR: Founder and KRU music executive president Norman Abdul Halim has been appointed to the Main Board and Asia Regional Executive Board of IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), the organisation representing the recording industry worldwide.

Norman, 43, rose to stardom in the 1990s as part of the Malaysian pop group KRU alongside his two brothers Edry and Yusry. The trio founded the KRU Group in 1992 which pioneered the production of digital music, film and television content in Malaysia.

Norman is also chairman of the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry’s National Anti-Piracy Awareness Committee and the vice president of the Malaysian Film Producers’ Association.

IFPI chief executive officer Frances Moore says: "I am delighted to welcome Norman to IFPI's Main Board, as well as our Asian Regional Executive Board. He brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise that will help to support our goal of developing the recorded music business internationally and securing sustainable market growth.

“The IFPI Boards look forward to the new perspectives, insights and innovative ideas that Norman will provide as we continue to focus on supporting our members worldwide.”

Norman adds: “It gives me great pleasure to accept this honour of representing the Malaysian music industry and the Asian independent music labels on an international level.
